This week at Little Way Cancer Support Centre, we were delighted to host a truly
meaningful and well-received Think Ahead workshop – a gentle, practical session focused on
advance care planning and preparing for the future with clarity and peace of mind.
The event welcomed attendees from all walks of life – some living with illness, some
supporting others, and many simply curious. The central message was clear, planning ahead
isn’t about fearing the end, it’s about living with intention, and making space for your values
and wishes to be known.
We were honoured to welcome two brilliant guest speakers whose insights helped shape an
empowering and thoughtful morning.
Joanne Begley, author of “For After I’ve Gone,” shared the inspiration behind her book and
the deeply personal reasons that drove her to create a resource to help others navigate the
practical and emotional aspects of preparing for the future. Joanne’s presentation was
moving, relatable, and full of compassionate wisdom, reminding us all of the power of
documenting our wishes for the sake of those we love.
We were equally privileged to have Rosemarie Hayden, Chair of the Irish Women Lawyers
Association (IWLA), join us to deliver a clear and informative talk on the legal aspects of
making a will. Rosemarie demystified the process and highlighted just how vital, and
empowering, it can be to have these documents in place, no matter your age or health
status. Her practical guidance and professional warmth were deeply appreciated by
everyone in the room.
The feedback from participants has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the
workshop as “reassuring,” “invaluable,” and “something everyone should do.”
At Little Way, we believe that conversations about the future should be approached with
care, honesty, and community. We’re so grateful to everyone who attended, contributed,
and shared in this space.
If you missed this session and would like to learn more or register interest in a future
workshop, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Together, we can face the future with calm, confidence, and compassion.
