What an unforgettable 24 hours we had at Relay for Life at The Curragh Racecourse this past
weekend! From laughter and dancing to moments of reflection and unity, the event brought
together survivors, families, carers, and friends in a celebration of life, resilience, and
community spirit.
The day kicked off on Saturday at 1:00 PM with the opening ceremony, a powerful moment
that saw hundreds of cancer survivors take the first lap around the track, cheered on by
loved ones and supporters. It was a moving tribute to the strength and courage of those
who have battled cancer — a moment that reminded us all of why we Relay.
At 2:00pm, teams made up of families, friends, and local groups began their walk, creating a
colourful ribbon of support that would continue around the clock. Our very own Little Way
Cancer Support Centre tent was full of activity all day and night — a place where people
came for chats, encouragement, and of course some therapy tasters delivered by Veronica
Beegan, our Reflexologist and Massage Therapist.
The entertainment never stopped! From live music and dance performances to fun-themed
laps and surprise guests, the energy was infectious. There were games for the kids, food
stalls for hungry walkers, and moments of pure joy as the community came together in
shared purpose.
One of the most touching parts of the event was the Candle of Hope Ceremony at 9:00pm.
Thousands of candle bags lined the track, each one representing a name, a story, a memory.
The glow of the candles, paired with poignant readings and music performances, created a
beautiful moment of stillness, reflection, and connection. Even if you couldn’t be there in
person, rest assured, if you purchased a candle bag through Little Way, your candle was lit
and part of the ceremony.
As the night continued, the track lit up with dancing, music, and laughter. Fun laps, costume
parades, and spontaneous dance-offs kept spirits high until the early hours. It was amazing
to see people of all ages participating.
Finally, at 12:50pm on Sunday, the event closed with a heartfelt ceremony, filled with
gratitude, hugs, and promises to return next year. It was a beautiful end to an incredible
event — 24 hours filled with hope, courage, fun, and community.
We at Little Way Cancer Support Centre are so proud to have been part of Relay for Life
2025. Thank you to everyone who visited our tent, supported the candle bag fundraiser, and
walked in solidarity.
Together, we made a difference. Together, we Relay.
